You know, growing up in the Old South End of Toledo, and still in the South End, and being a lifelong resident of Toledo...I have witnessed a LOT of change in this city!!!  I must say right off the bat...the next time there is a crime of ANY degree in Toledo, and I hear somebody say "IT'S THE FAULT OF THE POLICE FOR NOT BEING THERE"...I am going to SCREAM!!!  Let me say this right now...our Toledo Police AND the law enforcement agencies in our region...Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan...are GROSSLY understaffed...BUT...the men and women making up the roster of these law enforcement agencies are NOTHING BUT THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS!!! I salute each and every one of them!!!  When I hear that statement about the police being the blame for a crime...it makes my blood BOIL!!!  I don't care if we have 20,000 officers in Toledo...CRIME IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!  And besides that, BUDGET dictates the force!!!  I remember when I was a kid, South Toledo had Unit 13, a paddy wagon, and unit 14 and 15, two squad cars...all two-person units.  That was it.  And we had RESPECT for ALL law enforcement officers!!!  Since then, crime has grown by astonishing numbers, and there is VERY LITTLE RESPECT for the police...no mattere WHERE the hell they are on the job!  For those of you that blame the police for the crime rate, what is YOUR solution???  Should we post an officer in front of each home and place of business?  What do YOU think?  No matter what...the criminal element will ALWAYS work on staying ahead of the law!!!  Those of you that have scanners, you know what I'm talking about when I say "understaffed".  I came home from WIOT two-years ago, and my wife was inside the house, banging on the kitchen window as I got out of my car, and was in 'panic mode' pointing to the garage.  A man walked out of my garage with all my tools in a duffle bag, and looked ready to attempt to get into my house, knowing my wife was in there.  I told him to freeze.  He ran like hell, jumped to fences, and got the hell out of there.  Our alarm went off...they notified police...and she had the police on the phone line with her until I got there, which I APPRECIATED greatly!!!  I heard a distant siren.  In about three-minutes, a squad car came rolling-up in front of my house code-3.  The officer was dispatched to Airport Highway and Westwood from Summit Street and Edgewater Drive in Point Place...about a 15 mile run, lights and sirens, risking his life to get there.  We retieved all my property.  The officer apologized for taking a length of time getting there.  I told him there was NO NEED to apologize!!!  He put his own safety in the back seat to get to my house.  I hear this kind of stuff on my scanner nightly.  Our police officers are CONSTANTLY on the run protecting people.  In fact, the officer received another CODE-3 run BACK to Point Place!!!  People DO NOT realize what our police officers and other law enforcement officers go through.  The kind of incident that took place at my house happens MULTIPLE TIMES daily, but you can depend on the officers to show up!!!  The dispatchers do an EXCELLENT job in prioritizing the dispatches all over the region!  Our 911 personnel is AWESOME!!!  Give them a break!!!  The police is out there to put THEIR asses on the line between US and the BAD GUYS at ALL COSTS!!!  If you DO NOT respect the men and women in uniform that do that, then SHAME ON YOU!!!  Whether the next vehicle you see is the Toledo Police, Northwood Police, Fostoria Police, Adrian Police, Monroe Police, Techumseh Police, Lucas County Sherrif, Wood County Sherrif, Michigan State Police, Ohio Highway Patrol, or ANY other law enforcement agency...I CHALLENGE YOU TO GIVE THEM A WAVE TO LET THEM KNOW YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THEM AND APPRECIATE THEIR EFFORTS AND GREAT WORK!!!  If you DON'T...STAY IN YOUR HOUSE AND CLOSE YOUR CURTAINS!!!  I SALUTE ALL THE LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, not only in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan...but ALL ACROSS AMERICA AS WELL!!!  THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE FOR US, AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!  So the next time you blame the police when a crime occurs and fault them...PLEASE...CHECK YOURSELF FOR ANY ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY WITHIN YOUR CRANIUM!!!~~~Grizzly Brown
