Lucas County OVI Task Force will conduct more sobriety checkpoints Saturday night as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. We'll post the checkpoint locations to our news page on Saturday morning, click here.
While I was filling-in for Johny D a couple weeks ago, we learned the results of that Friday night's Lucas County OVI Task Force sobriety checkpoints. Of the 589 vehicles checked, 2 drivers were arrested for OVI. Is this an effective use of resources? Does it really help deter impaired driving? Or, would the roads be safer if those officers were on the street patrolling high risk areas? Each checkpoint uses about 15 officers who are dutied in addition to normal patrol levels.
